Jefferson Council approves 2026 budget with $237 average tax increase

NJ JEFFERSON — Jefferson Township Council approves 2026 budget with $237 average tax increase. Administrator Debi Millikin and CFO Bill Eagen presented the budget, which began with $2.4 million in fixed-cost increases and faced lower revenues than the prior year. The preliminary municipal tax increase was $193 per average home, reduced to $160 through use of $290,000 from a liquor license sale distribution.
Council also approved purchasing two police vehicles for 2026 instead of the historical four, and placed two sample resolutions on the next regular meeting agenda addressing the Highlands Protection Fund and Disabled Veterans Exemption.
