Jefferson Council Adopts Affordable Housing Overlay Zones

NJ JEFFERSON — Jefferson Township Council adopts inclusionary overlay zones for affordable housing compliance. Council voted 3-0 under Council President Pro Tempore Melissa Senatore to adopt Ordinance 26-09, establishing nine inclusionary overlay zones requiring a minimum 20 percent affordable-housing set-aside in multifamily developments. The Council authorized Township Attorney Ms.
Leo to execute a final affordable housing order resolving the township's fourth-round Fair Share Obligations. In a separate action reflecting fiscal pressures, the Council voted 3-0 to support Assembly Bill 4860, which seeks state school aid for qualifying school districts in development-restricted areas; Jefferson Township faces a 2.9 million dollar school budget shortfall driven by a 60 percent reduction in state aid. The Council approved a 235,646 dollar contract with Riverview Paving, Inc. for the Compton Gobel Trail Extension Phase II.
